Cyren: yes--the catcher and the rye
ssmooth: A lot of times it seems kids are forced to read books that they're not really old enough to appreciate, and the standard routine of Great Expectations and Jane Eyre only reinforces this. My teacher in tenth grade went off the usual track and had us read To Kill a Mockingbird, which has a comfortable, lucid style and a message shaped such that it can reach a kid that age. So that's my prime example.
MochaKimono: I don't go to school, neener-neener.
Dorque: Faranheit 451.
sos1: Yes, many. I had good classes.

chaddyboy_2000: Nope.
skelebone: We had to read Johnny Tremain, which I called Johnny Deformed.
CDRodeffer: Pilgrim's Progress was very good.
CortexBomb: Well, it depends on which school. In public school the good books were few and far between. The only one that sticks out there is 1984, and that wasn't actually required, it was optional. In university I read too many good books to list.
