¿Question #4829?
Gialmere: Since they know you're gamer, do your friends and family tend to buy you crappy games as gifts thinking that one game is as good as another? If so, did you ever point out that your local game store has gift certificates available?
Rlupino: No. Amazon wish list fixes that issue.
Pithagoras: They do occasionally. But usually they give me crappy games that I already have.
Hendal: no, no local game tore
DnDDmDb: Yes. Sadly, I don't have a local game store.
Jatoha: no they think I own everything already
Woelf: We send them a BGG wishlist link, so they know what to look for if they're planning to go the game route.
jellospike: People only buy me games they know I want.
Lacota: I got Bibleopoly for Christmas. They now know gift certificates are available.
Wabete: no, they just give the gift certificates
sirkerry: Nope.
The Unbeliever: 42
Polgara: no, they ask for a want list at birthdays to prevent this...
Hector Vortac: Every year I mention FunAgain by name. No results.
sigmazero13: i've had that happen before, yes... it sucks
blindspot: No. They know better. They know I have hifalutin' taste and don't suffer fools, so they don't bother.
gollygumdrops: Yes. No. (I like crappy games tho)
TabbySunLion: Most of our friends are gamers too. My family wouldn't know a game if it hit them in the face. They would never buy us one. So No. Actually, our local games store does not do gift certificates either.
kapnkrunch: No and no.
DHEK: Sadly, nobody has bought me any games despite knowing my love for the games.
Dimbus: My stepmother and sister are the only ones that buy me games and they insist that I keep my BGG wishlist up to date for the occsaions
Elf__Man: No. I have kids, so the gift giving is focused there.
ZiggyZambo: no
TheArchAngel: No, they usually ask what I want or let me pick it out for myself
POvidiusNaso: They used to, but I directed them to gift certificates.
martybjsg: No. They know better than to buy games that I don't specifically ask for.
seppo21: Generally, they only buy me stuff that I have specifically commented on being interested in. Except mom. She sometimes will do weird stuff that doesn't make any sense.
mrspank: People know better than to buy me crappy games. I'm way too picky for that. Well sometimes I am anyway.
purvisa: Nope
jjloc: no
Ebon Wendigo: Yes, sometimes. Yes, sometimes.
cowdog: I've not had that problem
muzzynyc: Yes. Not yet.
Lothartvni: People don't generally give me gifts, mainly because I don't ever ask for anything.
JDDudrey: No and NO
vampywife: the friends that give me games as gifts usually have good taste in games
W Eric Martin: I received The Worst Case Scenario Game from someone who likes to play Frag, but other than that mishap, I usually receive gift certificates.
arkibet: no, my friends and family are gamers too
dietevil: Luckily, no.
Godeke: We just skip the gift thing altogether.
brainrob: I buy them - they give me the cash. Works perfectly.
TaliaIsabelle: I just give them lists of games I want with URLs to Thought Hammer or Fair Play or Time Well Spent
cobbz20: Once, for my birthday. Then I sent out a huge list of games for Christmas as well as online store sites and I've only received good games since.
hellsbishop: No.
Chris Page: They know I'm into games, so I get bookstore gift certificates.
[Deleted user]: ...I point out that gift certificates are great for people who don't know me very well...for those who do, they know what I like...and this applies to everything, not just games...
Kazin: No, they haven't.
puffinge: They know better.
Nem Menuu: No.
bigbadsteve: usually if someone buys me a game, either they know its one i want, or they are pretty well aware of what i like
the_spy: yes, even on-line shops have gifts certificates!
skrutsch: rarely, NO (but I do get those regularly)
SenorOcho: Oddly enough, no.
billgoode: This has happened from time to time. My father isn't very good at picking out games. My brother does a good job usually (he's not afraid to ask at the game store what's good), but he has gotten me games that I already have from time to time. Whenever a holiday/birthday is coming up now I e-mail my BGG wishlist to them both :D. Makes it so they know what I want/don't have, and I can still have the fun of being a bit surprise.
AbeLincoln: yes! no, good thinking...
Great Dane: never
vetinari7878: No, I discouraged that behaviour a long time ago.
Domokun: Nope, they always ask what I want.
Karlsen: That what the Geek Wishlist is for
sos1: No
jttm: Sometimes
chaddyboy_2000: Last Christmas I got a really crappy Simpsons game from my aunt.
CortexBomb: No, thankfully
Lord_Prussian: No and I'm not sure ours does
skelebone: My mother has purchased me a couple of crapwagons at thrift shops and garage sales, but were they to buy anything retail, I would steer them in the direction of my BGG want/wishlist.
Dave: No one buys me games as gifts
CDRodeffer: That has happened on occasion, but not often. I wish we could send our "wanted" lists out to non-BGG members instead of just our "wish" lists.
Spielfreak: This used to happen, but now I create a short list and show them where online to shop. ; no
