puffinge: What is it with people asking "Is 1 good or bad" when asked to rate something on a 1 to 10 scale? Have they spent their lives in a cave up until now?

Woelf: It means they don't find you to be a reliable survey creator and/or it's an ambiguous topic, so it's unclear which part of the scale is optimal.

Chris Page: More to the point, they should be asking about the ordering of the numbers -- is 6 the best, followed by 3, then 8, and so forth?

vampywife: There are some odd scales, so sometimes one is good and one is bad, so blame the people making the scales, not the people trying to get clarification.

scriptorum: Maybe, but I think it's more likely years of listening to people confuse the terms rank and rate that it's left them confused as well. In any case, it's an arbitrary scale, and it's not like "rate something between 1 and 10" is any math books.
