¿Question #4869?
Gialmere: True Life Gaming: With all the new places to post, do you think that the BGG community is slowly fracturing into niche areas - the same way rock radio fractured into "oldies", "classic", "top 40", "contemporary", "heavy metal" etcetera?

ColonelPanic: Yes, but that was what I thought the purpose of BGG was to begin with... A large site dedicated to niche areas which would otherwise have a harder time finding each other. Also, rock radio is understandably fractured (I'm a radio broadcaster) especially when considering the tastes of the listening/gaming audience.
Woelf: No
Verdigris97: Only wargaming, as far as I can tell. The rest seem to have at least a little overlap between them.
sdonohue: No. It seems like the subdomain forums have encouraged more discussion not less.
pwilz: Well, if it is, then I would think it a good thing. Let's welcome more stuff.
muzfish4: Maybe. Is that a bad thing?
2amp: Actually, I'd like to see CCGeek branch off as separate sit. Maybe other subsets, but I can't envision them now
Wes Hope: Probaly, tho the front page should keep it together
fenwic: I think a few game-style-elitists will stay in their own genre, but most people just like to play. I think for most there's one type of game they DON'T like, and they'll participate in all but THAT.
BuddhaPhi: Who cares? This isn't life or death stuff. It's grown men and women spending too much on their hobby.
simply4est: No
OldestManOnMySpace: Sort of.
Chrisgmay: yes
Mike McCall: Certainly.
Sal M: The geek is still the hub of all the gaming activity
Butterbane: Until the recent BGG crash and the induction of BGG-lite on google, I wasn't even aware that there were people on BGG who DIDN'T play werewolf. Does this answer your question?
DHEK: Nah. It's still one big happy place.
MacBeth: Yes
monkeyrobot: I really don´t know. I play everything.
jhenke: Yes, but we're all interested in something common: games and having fun with our friends in playing them. It IS ok to like different things that others may hate. afterall, it's not up to them.
AWildEep: Sure
dmomo: Don't know. I don't leave my Niche!
ltux: Yes.
ZombyDawg: It's all Clear Channel. The "niche" areas a just a way to target all the demographics with ads. It's all about the ads. What was the question?
Nekura: Is that a bad thing? There's an XM station (The Blend) that tried to mix and match pop genres and it just doesn't work. (Of course, where else can you hear Led Zepplin followed by Billy Joel followed by Green Day)
scriptorum: Could be, rabbit. Could be.
hellsbishop: Not been here long, but hell it's bound to happen.
cc_TheToph: Yes. I prefer the cc_TheToph area, myself.
Platinum Dragon: Yeah, if only because most people will only read forums on games interesting them. Or be like Puffinge and just hang out in the 'Questions.
brainrob: Yes
birdbrain: I hope it does. It has become too big to really track basic stuff like what new cool games are out.
billgoode: I think that board gaming in general has always had different niches to it. As such, a certain degree of factionalization is to be expected on a site such as BGG.
Tushratta: Possibly, but I think that BGG does a good job of bringing together gamers who cross genre boundaries. I play board wargames, minature wargames, Euro-style games, traditional card games, CCGs, and traditional boardgames (e.g., Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit). I'd rather fiddle around on the Geek than go to somelace like Consimworld.
Loquutus: chat, forums, lists, trades, geekquestions, geek auctions...
flyinghogfish: No
ValJor: I don't think so
javelin98: It's been that way all along; the niches have just been waiting for people to recognize and name them
djlg: Kind of, but not quite the way you describe.
jellospike: I hope not
skelebone: I don't think so, but there might be some sub-communities forming.
CDRodeffer: Perhaps, but so what if it does? Sorted content can't be bad, can it?
Lord_Prussian: I've kind of lost track of it all, but it's not necessarily a bad thing if it helps organize content so you can find what you want.
jttm: Fantasy Gaming: Them bards sure are good.
Spielfreak: no
CortexBomb: Not really...granted, some areas feature less visitors than others (i.e.: I avoid the OT area because I dislike the negative threads that can come up) but overall I think people are still strongly centred in the present threads in the forums, and sometimes in Geeklists. This is different than it used to be, but the "main" areas are still known commodities, and are still frequented by most BGGers as far as I can tell
chaddyboy_2000: Yeah, there are lots of niche areas.
