fellonmyhead: Trick-taking. With the vast majority of these games it doesn't matter how well you play if you're dealt a poor hand. That said, my favourite card games involve taking tricks. Can't really say the presence of dice puts me off, it depends how they are used. Can't really say lack of strategy either, because I won't know until I've played. But I will know how crap my hand is when the trick-taking mechanic involved has been explained, and usually it's just a waiting game to see how much I lost by.
