vampywife: it depends on the game...midnight syndicate put out some pretty cool "mood" music cds a couple of years ago and those work well for dark games. the LOTR soundtracks also make good gaming music. in general, i prefer music without words, as there isn't as much to distract.

BilboAtBagEnd: It depends on the game. A lot of abstracts I don't think I'd like music to (and it tends not to come up), although a very quite string instrument is okay. Other games, so-so. The really thematic ones (Lord of the Rings, Traumfabrik, Middle Earth CCG, Dungeoneer) really do well with appropriate theme music.
