¿Question #647?
pernishus: Why do people think decimation is such a bad thing? Being reduced by 10% is not really crippling most of the time
DHEK: Okayyy... how about I do that to you the next time I see you?
mats-k: Beats me.
CDRodeffer: Decimation, tithes -- what's the difference?
Blackwind: Let me take 10% of you and then tell me what you think.'
chaddyboy_2000: Great!
CortexBomb: It might not sound like a lot, but if it happens you would be missing that 10%, trust me
jttm: Uhhh... isn't decimation, complete and utter destruction?
EYE of NiGHT: They think it means reduction by 90%, that is to a tenth of your former presence.
ValJor: Have you checked the dictionary lately? This 10% business was true in the times of the Romans, now this word means a lot more killing than 10%.
Flyspeck23: I don't know.
djlg: Still better than not being decimated.
skelebone: Merriam-Webster, definition 3: a : to reduce drastically especially in number b : to destroy a large part of - probably from popular usage.
