¿Question #690?
sos1: You've read the book; you've seen the movie: of which can you honestly say the movie is better?
ocdspectrum: The Godfather. And maybe the Bourne Identity too.
MartinWin: Lord of the Rings.
thegreybetween: V for Vendetta. I know Alan Moore was a bit unsure of how to run a serialized title at the time, but each of the departures from his work within the screenplay work wonders to consolidate and ultimately enhance the intended message. The fact that Moore hates the film adaptation is pretty telling, given his ego.
Woelf: Blade Runner
KillerPower: Eric the viking
Rayvn7: That depends on what fucking movie you're talking about...
Corran Horn: Pet Cemetary
Sitnaltax: Lord of the Rings.
Zedsdead: It's not a movie, but I'm saying Dexter anyway. The book read like a great idea by a shitty writer. Against all odds the series has turned out to be riveting and convincing.
frogmind: Fight Club. The book reads like a poorly written script. Fincher did wonders with the film.
pwilz: Stand by Me and The Shawshank Redemption and Blade Runner
jessitron: What about Star Wars episodes IV-VI? I haven't read the books, but people sure love the movies
malloc: Nothing so far that was a book 1st. (The Star Wars books for example suck)
Neumannium: Coppola's 'The Godfather' was better than Mario Puzo's novel.
shteev: Fight Club.
duartec: Star Wars - A New Hope
Darilian: Really depends on the book. (or the movie)
Rina: Debbie Does Dallas?
jannelle: The Princess Bride
Geosmores: any of the Harry Porter movies
Zelurs: Hunt for the Red October maybe.. but many movies about comics are better, eg. Sin City, Blueberry (I'm not so into that wild west thing..)
kpetzing: none. The books always seem better, although the special effects can be really fun to watch. They always have to cut out a lot of material to make a movie, making the book lose its depth.
jeffwolfe: The Running Man.
out4blood: Fight Club
DHEK: I'm tempted to say LOTR because the movies are totally awesome. It's been a while since I read the book so I don't know if the movies are really better than the book, but it's probably at least as good (if not better).
slowcorner: Shawshank Redemption (Novella "Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption")
Butterbane: Which book? Which movie? I always like the book ... tho sometimes a book is just like a movie with a really SLOW plot.
Nekura: Not counting screenplay novelisations: Fight Club
diemacher: Plot based books make good movies; character-based books make terrible movies
POvidiusNaso: Perhaps The Fellowship of the Ring. The movie is more plot-driven than the book, but the book is still better.
MightyMike: the spy who loved me
Beelzebub: Whichever media-type you were first exposed to the work. So...read the book first and the movie will rarely measure up.
ZiggyZambo: Star Wars, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
GornTC: So far the books have been better. Even novelized movies are better than the movie itself.
hans4rd: the bible
vampywife: i can't think of any that fit that
Dorque: Princess Bride.
Avatar_69: Jurassic Park
Big Bad Lex: Blade Runner
BeatPosse: 2001. Godfather. A Clockwork Orange. Full Metal Jacket (based on short timers).
scriptorum: You're going to have to be a little more specific, chump.
Blacknightjj: when you find out let me know
Gwahlur: Fight Club, though I´ve only browsed through Palahniuk`s book.
robe62: SHINING
Burzum: Fight Club, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Dumas Club/The Ninth Gate, The Hunger, Naked Lunch, Make Room! Make Room!/Soylent Green
Helenoftroy: The Hours was about Mrs. Dalloway. I really didn't like that book so I guess the movie was better but it was a very loose interpretation.
Jet Jaguar: Does the Bible count?
bigbadsteve: fast times at ridgemont high was kinf of a tossup for me. shawshank redemption is about the same
XanderF: None. 'Lord of the Rings' series has the distinction of the movies being almost as good - in a very different way, of course.
BrokenNails_NZ: Fight Club, though only because after reading the book I couldn't imagine how they thought it could be turned into a movie...and a good one to boot!
aramis: Star Trek, the Motion(less) Picture.
Sheylon: The Orchid Thief (Adaptation was loosely based...)
pronoblem: 2001: A Space Odyssey
otha62: Last of the Mohicans
billgoode: Well, it's maybe not BETTER per-se, but it's just as good: Lonesome Dove.
Redneon: Rising Sun
Unitbuster: Matilda.
ssmooth: Only the occasional movie like To Have and Have Not which basically leaves the bad book behind and makes a good movie in the same neighborhood.
Dr. No: none
GrandpaDave: Depends on what
fizzix: Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone
Lord_Prussian: Lord of the Rings
sourwyrm: nothing comes to mind
MK-Ultra71: Blade Runner - "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" was too out there
arkibet: Dune.
TMJJS: none
2amp: movies usually disappoint
kennyb: nope
ThatFalafelGirl: can't think of any right now, i'll edit.
Gecko23: Starship troopers. Although it was technically just a short story.
skrutsch: Can't think of any at the moment. Matilda is a possibility.
Jern: Depends of what I did first
erli: Not me
dakarp: Ghost World
HappyProle: I'm tempted to say Fight Club, though I know it will piss off the diehards. I just thought that the visual deception of the movie was very well done.
ginn5j: Shawshank Redemption
heli: Star Wars for one.
Drewcooter: Last of the Mohicans
garea37: The Princess Bride
AlorielLelyn: Typically no, with rare exceptions.... very rare.
BaSL: why should i do both?
skelebone: Fight Club
gnomehome: Lord of the rings - not a dull moment in the movie (burn the heretic !)
tragicpoet: Fight Club, the movie expanded on the book in many stunning and visual ways.
Grimwold: Any where the Movie actually came first...
GuyHill: jurassic park
Ryno8: none
Blackwind: none
Bluenose: Apocalyse Now
viogression: None that I can think of
puffinge: the godfather
isolated: Bambi. The book was really boring.
geberus: The Lost World
BobDodgerBlue: Not many
Belash: Lord of the Rings
CheetohFingers: LotR trilogy minus the added frodo and sam love scenes
raolsson: The movie always pales by comparison
chaddyboy_2000: Movies are ALWAYS better.
sdownin: Haven't found one, yet

Pseudo Nymh: Whichever came first.
Komodo: None
snoozefest: none
shumyum: The Godfather and yes, Starship Troopers
Jim_P: Battlefield Earth
jttm: None so far.
CortexBomb: Requiem for a Dream is about it. The Selby original is good, but Aronofsky really took it from good to completely searing and stylish...see it...
UhhhClem: The French Connection, High and Low.
LudesFactor: none i can think of at the moment
sos1: Answering my own question: Babe (the Gallant Pig); The Iron Giant; Last of the Mohicans
ValJor: None that I can remember. Although "The Bible" could be a possible contender. Who cares to read *that* book?
ynnen: Lord of the Rings
