¿Question #694?
Aldie: What do you think about charging GeekGold for asking a question?
pricero1: That's fine, Aldie, as long as you continue to pay me for my answers.
JRountrey: Not a good idea. The site should stay accessible to the public and interactive for anyone.
0Shea0: I like it. But also, How do I get geekgold?
BOBBYCAN: headhonchoturkey
pwilz: Wow, was this really once an idea?
Phil Fleischmann: I'd definitely be in favor of that.
Svengaard: I think a lot of people would be poor.
xofour: I think it is an option that you could exercise. I think it would stifle creativity. I think that it would increase the number of answers in the short term, but pretty much eliminate participation in the long term.
Auramine O: Nooooooooooooooo
Felimid: Sounds good. The first 100 go for .01 each. The next 100 go for .02 each. And so on. But if their questions get answered by at least 100 people, they get .01 back for each question with that many responses. Sound fair?
bcooperok: Sounds good. And I am assuming those who Answer Geek questions could receive some of that gold, oh say through some sort of tipping mechanism.
Cringing Dragon: Aaaarrrgghhhh.... nnnnoooooo!
Skwib: Stupidest idea ever, Aldie. For shame.
Woelf: That would be a problem.
desmodus: Easy source for plenty of revenue
Leezer: Ewww. I feel like I need to take a shower now.
cgund: I prefer the ability to block the questions of certain askers. There are a handful of askers who just ask rhetorical stupidities in order to remain at or near the top of the "asker" ranks and they absolutely ruin the fun of this feature. I'm not at all sure that charging GG would solve the problem and it would actually discourage your occasional question-asker.
tiggers: It might help filter some of the garbage but there would be a lot less q's overall
ldw3076: If questions were to cost geek gold it should be a fractoin of 1 gold. Like .1 or .2.
Asmoridin: Might be worth considering... Maybe a limit to how many free ones you can ask?
Blacknightjj: i like it, get rid of just asking questions because you are bored
ArtEmiSa64: Maybe have 2 categories, one for fun questions and one for questions you wil like a real and helpfull answer. The GG can be charget when submited and holded until the person who asked splits the reward.
gantrell: nope
rmartinc: Great if the asker can give the "correct" answer and the first person to get it correct gets the GG
capt yid: Yes! 3 questions per gold and a "thumb down to delete" would clear out the junk.
pastej: I think it would ruin the fun of the quetsions.
spartax: I'm in the "recommend for deletion" camp.
zott: lame
mbuckingham: No comment
mrspank: Bad idea.
jannelle: Don't like that idea
Otter: Three questions for one geekgold sounds right.
TheDS: outstanding idea!!!!!!!!!
hancock.tom: Please. I really like this feature, but I have to wade through so much junk. This would be a great feature for the site if it wasn't being used essentially as a forum. I also like the alternate idea of "recommend for deletion" button on the questions to help discourage all the crap questions that come through. Maybe if one of your questions is deleted you can't post another for 24 hours to prevent immediate reposting of worthless questions.
DHEK: I think that would make asking questions immensely unpopular and might just kill off the feature.
aleo09: how about being charged for repeating a question
meta87: I like the idea
eddyspaghetti: Thats just crazy talk.
POvidiusNaso: I think that's no good.
unixrevolution: I think the ability to reccomend a geekquestion for deletion would be more useful. If more people reccomend to nix it than answer it, it's gone.
jeffwolfe: I think very few people would pay. I would rather see the ability to filter out people.
Ryhesling: charge; many questions are a waste of time that could be spent gaming.
ZiggyZambo: :P
GrimJester: Cool. About 10GG each should do nicely.
ellephai: I don't like the idea. The Geekquestions are just silly fun, but lots of people seem to like them. A charge would hit newbies especially hard, which I dislike. Yes, there are many stupid questions--but probably some of the ones I think are stupid and pointless are considered interesting by somebody, and vice versa. I do wish there was some effective way to purge questions that are really identical, like all the versions of "how do I get some GeekGold?" I guess if hosting all these questions is or becomes a burden on the site in any way, that'd be the only circumstance in which I'd support charging gg to ask or answer them. And if you did that, I'd rather it be in some way where everyone could have some allotment of free ones. Or you could institute a system where after a certain length of time, questions of a certain age disappeared--but then I'd want a mechanism where we could thumbs-up the best questions, and it would save them from destruction at the end of the regular question lifespan.
Agyar900: No
everlong205: I prefer the idea of receiving geek gold for answering questions
falloutfan: I see no reason to do that. Asking questions is a form of social exchange at best, and at its worse, a waste of time.
jchernofsky: oh so wrong
joebelanger: That is a great idea. The best I've heard today!
Redneon: Fair enough, it might slow down some of the dimwits who have posted inane questions.
vampywife: Those of us without GeekGold couldn't ask questions, so I don't like it.
scriptorum: I think it's a great idea. New users should be directed to the forums if they have questions.
defcon311: Bad idea. They'll still get insulting answers, too. Not from me of course.
Helenoftroy: Hi Aldie, I think we should so we don't have to go through all this horrible questions. But there should be gg given for good answers or questions.
Chris Page: Tempting. Or for those that get lots of NAs.
bigbadsteve: only if it costs an equal amount to answer with an insult
RealBadMoFo: bitchin
Kazin: The quality would surely rise.
Stigh: Great idea, because I see a huge amount of crappy questions.
Favre4MVP: I wouldn't look at the questions anymore.
jasta6: I'm done....................
Odat: I don't think it's going to solve any problems. People either don't have any geekgold or have more than they need, I would expect.
Loquutus: Bad Idea
ZombyDawg: Ca ca
chillrunr: Yikes, it's hard enough for a newbie to get gold as it is, what with every game on earth already uploaded and reviewed :-)
notquitekarpov: Not much
javelin98: Not a good idea -- that'll be three GG, please.
jellospike: I think it might be a good idea. But 1 GG should get you at least 3-5 questions. And you should get GG or free questions if a lot of people answer the questions you ask.
scubadawg1: I like free!
pellitieri: I think it would keep down some of the oddball questions...although some may find it's a useful place to spend.
GrandpaDave: I don't like it
obob: how about adding another button that says "stupid question" and for every 100 users who click it, the asker loses geekgold...
DonO: For the moment, pretending I'm not a programmer, and have no idea how difficult all this would be: I'd Split it to SeriousQuestions and StupidQuestions. SeriousQuestions cost, maybe 1gg gets you 5 questions, or even more expensive, to ensure seriousness. StupidQuestions remain free like these now for the so far incredibly successful purpose of entertaining the idle masses. Also since the asker of SeriousQuestions had to pay let him/her delete any answers to his/her questions at a whim. Also let each user have a list of "certain" other users they can block from answering any of their questions. :-)
mrbeankc: Don't like it but I wouldn't mind limiting the number of questions a person could ask per day/week/month
CharlieWonka: Yes and giving it to people who answer them.
Lord_Prussian: Sounds like a good idea
Nomadik: Good
BaSL: bad idea. this is way to much fun
heli: too much
Musti: Takes away the fun of finding snappy answers for a wide variety of questions
KnobDoctor: Well, seeing as how I have no geekgold...hmm.
erli: Bad idea. Now GeekGold for answers :-D
Lucimara: Greedy.
HappyProle: Ok.
snoozefest: great idea!!
Quest22: Probably a good idea, given some of these questions I've been seeing
skrutsch: I think it's a great idea. But I agree with make it cheap and earn gold for answering. (You have to answer a lot to get one gg.)
rawk: no
xlorp: First question per user is free, every one after that costs GG
puffinge: Is this a hint, Aldie?
yossarians: Sounds OK to me
kennyb: only if you can earn gg by answering them....and single word answers dont count
RaDiKal: The questions are sufficiently lame to not be worth
AlorielLelyn: That would reduce the number of questions asked, certainly. It might also kill the system entirely.
Dave: I don't think anything should cost GeekGold.
Flyspeck23: Not a good idea.
bucklen_uk: Don't think people would bother to ask them
-Johnny-: good idea
tragicpoet: Depends, will we start being able to earn by answering?
Windopaene: Sucks
gnomehome: Go for it !
Nightmare: Could go either way
Grimwold: it would discourage the question askers, and probably make the whole thing less fun.
GuyHill: no. please!
fsumarc: It would certainly make this list of questions from hell shorter if they had to pay...
Blackwind: please!
shumyum: No thanks, we need some fresh newbie meat in here.
Mordachai: No comment.
Cavedog_pdx: What? One for a good question two for a stupid one?
chaddyboy_2000: I like the idea.
geberus: nope
Belash: how about a five for one GG deal?
djlg: Great idea, but keep the cost very low (say 1GG or even 1GG per 5 questions).
CheetohFingers: 1gg/question or Ignore some question askers
Randy Cox: No.
dakarp: nah
Mosse: A necessity. Otherwise we would be flooded with silly questions. Wait a minute! We are!!!
louiseh: It might cut down on duplications, which would be a start.
jens_hoppe: Only if one can earn GG for answering X questions...
BobDodgerBlue: Hmm. It might be a good way to weed out the silliest ones, and reduce the amount of the stuff lying around
Karlsen: Not whilst you can still get GeekGold for session reports that consist of little more than "X, Y and Z played and the scores where 1, 2 and 3"
Eric Haas: Only if it is donated to a worthy charity.
Magnus the Blue: It would contribute to wasted time, space & resources on the Forums page.
cornjob: I still don't see the point of the questions in the first place.
Spielfreak: Great idea!
CDRodeffer: I love the idea!
Shakar: I like that.
Debate: Bad idea.
netfilterz: Sure, but then how about getting gold for answering them...?
jttm: Sure
ScottBecker: I think its just another tax in disguise.
MisterCranky: I thought it was fine, so long as you were willing to pay a geek gold for every 10 answers that question received.
CortexBomb: The idea of cutting back redundant / completely pointless questions is good, but I think the system would stagnate if that was done, because I don't think very many people will pay to create questions
fizzix: The question is moot.
LudesFactor: mixed blessings ... it's a good way for the Geek to collect GG; it will cut down the numbers of questions asked, but perhaps too drastically
ynnen: I like the idea -- 5 free questions, 1 GG per question after that -- OR -- 1 GG each, buy 6 for 5 GG... There's too much trash out there now
ValJor: Should be done right now!
skelebone: Hmm.. some merit, but still kinda silly.. Maybe GeekGold to answer questions?
