¿Question #711?
CortexBomb: What is your favourite area influence game?
ocdspectrum: Cthulhu Wars.
EmperorZombie: Crop dust the grocery store.
xlorp: Go
Blott: I don't think I've played many of these. The one I know I have played is Mission Red Planet which was moderately enjoyable.
Jatoha: I don't know what that refers to
bcooperok: Clue
Woelf: Small World
Spirit of 70: Small World.
benjak: el grande
DarrinWilliams: El Grande.
MIB 8686: It's not really a game, but whenever I fart.
scrub: Not San Marco.
daveroswell: Othello. Or Cities and Guilds
Numskull: Notre Dame
Leo-T: Aladdin's Dragon
matthan: Catan.
DHEK: I've only played one - Samurai. That was pretty good, though, but I doubt that'll be my best if I played some of the other top-rated area-influence games too.
aleo09: don't have one
Chad Jensen: Totaler Krieg
Greedo: What in Sam hell is an Area Influence Game?!?!?
Roja: Struggle of Empires
FrozenHoHos: Since it's the only one I've played, Carcassonne
misanthrope: "Pull My Finger"
RyanMC: China
Eric Johnson: San Marco
POvidiusNaso: El Grande or San Marco or Die Macher.
brainrob: A clearer definition is required methinks
korppu: San Marco
Kazin: History of the World
Windmilling: Die Macher
flyinghogfish: Don't have one
RoSKoMaNTe: el grande
fFish: history of the world
scriptorum: I agree with Glamorous Mucus, you need to be specific. Hmm, never thought I'd say that one day. If you mean areas that can contain multiple player's pieces that indicate contest over control or scoring, then I'd probably go with San Marco for now.
Yollege: Blokus
BaSL: ElGrande
beakermyers: Football?
dr glaze et al: DIE MACHER or die ! but really they are all just reward-the-majority-shareholder games, so let's all thank Sackson for the genre...
Belash: KuK
SteveK2: Kreta (the one I want to play next)
sourwyrm: el grande
anson: El Grande.
rdmasters: Sadly following the mob, El Grande.
Bahamut-X: El Grande yet
The Unbeliever: 42
ssmooth: Chess
skrutsch: El Grande
dakarp: San Marco.
puffinge: E&T if it qualifies, otherwise, El Grande
Windopaene: Tikal
Mike A: Samurai. Trias is close, though.
phoeniix: samurai
Lord_Prussian: El Grande
KnobDoctor: Go.
2amp: tycoon
tomski: Wallenstein, so far (I think)
gnomehome: Löwenherz is good
nexttothemoon: Tycoon if that qualifies...I think it does...at least that's one of the mechanisms.
toulouse: Ys
hibikir: El Grande
Ludocrazy: Attika
stephensj23: La Citta
DenverWolf: the politics in my neighborhood
Dave: El Grande, by my definition.
Glamorous Mucus: "Area influence" is too vague a description for me. I mean what really is area influence, other than the obvious El Grande-like games? Is Carcassonne? Is E&T? Is Fifth Avenue? Titicaca? It's just not a clear or useful category IMO.
Blackwind: Struggle of Empires
GuyHill: i hate those
threlicus: El Grande
yossarians: right now, El Grande
Snooze_uk: Tikal
Steve Leach: El Grande
djlg: El Grande
sos1: Naked Twister

Flyspeck23: Wallenstein.
djflippy: El Grande
jttm: Vinci
HappyProle: Chutes and Ladders.
Spielfreak: El Grande
ValJor: El Grande. It's the only one I know, by the way
shumyum: El Grande
snoozefest: risk. just kidding. not sure - doesn't seem like i play them very often.
netfilterz: El Grande
CDRodeffer: Go
ynnen: Web of Power
Friendless: I haven't seen any I liked - it seems like an artificial mechanism.
skelebone: I've not played many, but San Marco is interesting.
Jim_P: El Grande
ScottBecker: El Grande
CortexBomb: Right now Liberte, but only narrowly. I like it the most mainly because it is so opaque in comparison to the other top titles in the genre, and because of the interesting alternate end game conditions
