¿Question #757?
EndersGame: Why is water cheaper than diamonds, when humans need water to survive, not diamonds?
pwilz: That's the way it is because Stone Cold said so.
the manatee: Water's easier to get than diamonds.
beerbear: SHINEY!
kathleenryan: Greed
Squibz: Water is more plentiful and can't be mounted on rings for rich people.
mrspank: Because there's a lot more water than diamonds of course.
Woelf: Are you kidding? Diamonds are delicious!
DT76: scarcity & ease of manufacture: water falls from the sky, diamonds must be mined
DasViktor: Water tends to be more abundant. Same question applies for corn and gold.
Felimid: Because water isn't a girl's best friend. As a Cessna would say, "Plane and simple." :)
Infomanohio: Water is a lot easier to find, is more abundant, and tastes better.
dwrigley: I tried giving my girlfriend a ring made of rere blue-glacier heavy-water, but it melted
ricardofo: Because their are difficult to find, are beautiful and denotes power.
Zarion of Arabel: DeBeers
WatchmanX2000: supply side economics?

aleo09: it's not as rare
henry_kay: Pecause there is plenty of water and only few diamonds?
samidha: Because humans are insane.
kjdaiisha: The water supply is not controlled like the diamond supply. Meet the Oppenheimers.
ZombyDawg: Aggressive marketing plan. The "Diamond Invention" where there is complete control over supply AND demand. A true conspiracy.
puffinge: easier to find
DHEK: Because water is so much more readily available and easily available than diamonds, nevermind that water is needed for survival. Supply and demand, dude.
elirlandes: Because globally, water is abundant. Diamonds are not.
carpejugulum: Because deBeers isn't marketing water yet.
matthewjhoskins: Supply and demand.
jeffwolfe: Supply and demand.
POvidiusNaso: Supply and demand, baby. Diamonds don't fall out of the frickin' sky.
dsmeyer: See economics are dictated by supply and demand. Currently in most first world countries the supply of water is much higher than the demand, while the supply of diamonds is much lower. (the pimps would have much more bling if they couls afford it) But I feel the question you are asking is more of a moral question along the lines of if there is some much wealth why are people starving and that comes back to peoples greed. See if water got too expensive you could wait until is rained and stock up, but it has never rained diamonds. I hope that answers your question.
ZeroZilla: Because 70% of our planet's surface is not covered in diamonds. What's more, most (admittedly spoiled and short-sighted) people can turn on a tap and get some. Water, that is.

Avatar_69: Diamonds don't fall from the sky.
Hoju: too hard to get a monopoly on water
defcon311: Because people are stupid and think that wealth is something good to have. Diamonds equal wealth.
TheDS: supply and demand. In some places, water IS more expensive than diamonds. Let's say you're in a plane crash in the middle of nowhere, what would you give to survive? You know you need water, and if there is none, you'd be willing to pay any price to get it. You might even do things you'd normally never even think of.
Helenoftroy: supply vs. demand- supply is too vast
scriptorum: Please see supply and demand in any economics textbook.
Hossen: Because 75% of the planet is not covered in diamonds.
Sheylon: The world makes no sense. This is just a symptom.

dietevil: Rarity

Dr. No: humans are stupid
gt8595b: supply for water is high, while supply for diamonds is chocked and it's demand is artificially inflated

kimapesan: Just wait for the day that isn't true.
leece: This will change.
StormKnight: It has something to do with the magical energy that sinks into gemstones and makes us crave them
BengalBandit: Because water is plentiful, and diamonds are not. Diamonds are a luxury, water is not.

jimchris: After you have water, you need diamonds. Basic economic math, chum.
skrutsch: Because people NEED it.

geberus: there is so much more water in the world, simple economics
chaddyboy_2000: Water is more plentiful.
netfilterz: Because Marilyn Monroe didn't claim water as her best friend...
Shakar: Diamond is a controlled market, that is artificially manipulated; Unlike water people won't revolt just to get that diamond ring.
loonling: because diamonds are darned hard and labor intensive to get out of the ground in any usable quantity.
BobDodgerBlue: Supply
Eric Haas: Diamonds have better marketing.
ScottBecker: there is a much greater supply of water

skelebone: Diamonds have an artificially inflated market created by a perception of value and scarcity.
jttm: Women
ynnen: Because the vanity of a few people creates the false impression of necessity in a market hungry for acceptance and superiority over those unable to meet certain arbitrary social thresholds. Or because it's easier to get. One of the two.
CortexBomb: Because water isn't scarce enough in the industrialized world to drive the price up. If both were equally scarce water would be much, much higher priced than diamonds are, as it is, water is relatively plentiful amongst those nations with capital and is cheap as a result. Diamonds are comparatively scarce, and hence, despite their general uselessness, are nonetheless high priced
