¿Question #1451?
Claytonius Maximus: If you could only do one of the following, which would you choose? 1) Design a game like LCR that sells a bunch, but is widely hated by BGGers; or 2) design a game that doesn't sell as much, but is practically universally loved by BGGers

Fennic: Quality over quantity
thecometkid: I'd rather make a great game than sell a ton.
Auramine O: I would like to design a game that people love because it will spread the love by word of mouth and reviews and all will be right in the world. Amen.
sweetgotham: 2, always 2
Jatoha: I would design a game I love and let the chips fall where they may
Cygnus2112: 1
Woelf: The latter, unless I only cared about making money.
jessitron: (2). I am not financially ambitious.
daveroswell: Why not both?
Zedsdead: Given just this information, I'd opt for the BGG-beloved game. But I have to admit, if I knew the money difference were great enough I'd make an assbag like LCR instead.
desmodus: I would start with 1), then with all the money earned I would have enough time to spend to try to achieve 2)
Junichirou: I'd probably go with 1, so I have the money and power to develop/design and publish 2. Sometimes, you have to give the larger public what they want before you can do what you really want to do.
hskrfn822: Do I have a day job? 2 either way
Zarion of Arabel: both
datainadequate: 2
aleo09: hmmm.
DHEK: (1). The money will help me out in life. Adoration by geeks won't put food on my table.
Numskull: #2. I'm pretty sure that I'd be effectively brain dead if I actually thought of LCR as a "game".
ralpheous: 1. Totally. I've been poor and loved. I'd like to see what rich and hated feels like.
spamwise: 2
offwater: #1
rootbeer: 2
roo414: one that sells
POvidiusNaso: 2.
mrspank: I'd pick #2, but I wouldn't mind #1 either.
Nimrod6: 2
Leo-T: 2
Shade_Jon: 2
rawdawg: BGG is a very big and wide spread community so either way you would have big sales
scriptorum: Both. The first will make me enough money that I can afford to do the second.
BobMaysJr: #1 - so I could afford my addiction to category #2!
vampywife: i would rather design a game that people want to play.
Bearcat89: I will go for sales...I really don't care what others think.
WatchmanX2000: ignore people who believe the world is made only of two choices
brainrob: 2
Chris Page: The second.
MeYesMe: The latter. I want to be loved by those whose love is worth a damn.
Unitbuster: I'ma go the Machiavellian way. It's better to be feared.
Geese: #2 most likely...but the thought of retiring before age 40 is hard to pass up!
fFish: #2
SenorOcho: I'd design a game that I like. Screw the rest.
shebby: Design a solution to find my way out of my lunchbox.
Loquutus: The second one.
vetinari7878: 1, but under an assumed name.
GrandpaDave: 2. Because the next game I design will sell more if it's loved.
JamesT: 2
jellospike: 2
Cavedog_pdx: Give me the love!
mrbeankc: Show me the money!
dakarp: 2, probably, unless I could actually make a really good living by choosing 1.
skrutsch: 2
Lord_Prussian: Probably 2
wyattnoise: I would rather design the best game ever to be played by four people and then keep it to myself and a few stoners.
Musti: I would first design LCR and then the next Puerto Rico, just to show that their are better games. Imagine a great game with a sales slogan 'By the designer of LCR'
Gecko23: 1. Sorry, cash flow would win me over easy.
bluebehir: Universally loved by the geek. Money is nice, but accomplishment gives more self satisfaction.
ThatFalafelGirl: choice 2. LCR is the bane of my existence. Period.
2amp: if it sells, it must be loved by BGGers
snoozefest: 2
kimapesan: Option 2.
heli: 2
jmagnini: I'd rather design a poor selling good game than a popular crappy one(eg monopoly)
kennyb: I would design a game that i wanted , to heck with everyone else
MisterCranky: I vote for option 3--ignore the BGGers.
ginn5j: Although the money'd be great, I'd have to go with design a game that doesn't sell much but is loved by BGGers.
Wintergoblin: Design a game that
FullTinCan: 2
ValJor: Second option
AlorielLelyn: I'd prefer my game to be liked by people, not be popular in sales.
gnomehome: 2
sumo: 2.
-Johnny-: 2
tragicpoet: A game that sells a bunch, then I can make all the BGG games I want
puffinge: Let's be practical here.
chaddyboy_2000: Universally loved.
thoia: I'd design both, that way the first game could fund the development of my other games.
Dante_Cubit: Go for the dough, then sit back and take my time making a real game.
GeminiWeb: 2)
djlg: 2)
louiseh: 2.
Belash: 2
Eric Haas: What is it with these stupid choice questions?
CDRodeffer: Number 1 might make number 2 possible, but the opposite is not true.
Blackwind: #2
Spielfreak: Most definately #2.
jttm: 2
skelebone: Design a loved game, or design a crap game and use the proceeds to design a loved game.
CortexBomb: Probably LCR just because I doubt I would want to play my own design that muc anyway, and the proceeds would allow me to hang out with other people and game more, at least among those who would understand my decision to sell out :-)
