¿Question #1800?
fellonmyhead: Would you prefer to pay higher for a game which has a small print-run, or wait and see if the game is taken up by a major publishing house?
Felimid: Either. Depends on the game (and the bank account).
Spirit of 70: It depends on the game, if I wanted it badly enough, I'd do the former rather than the later.
takras: That would entirely depend on the game. If I like it and plays well, then I'd get it early as a collectors copy. I like to have the "original" print.
Critical Mass: i am unlikely to hear about small print run games.
Hendal: either if fine with me, but if it is a good game the first run is better so I can play it sooner
Woelf: It depends on the game and how long of a wait it was likely to be.
Harkonnen13: If I want the game bad enough I'll by it as a small print run.
Numskull: Wait and see. Chances are, it'll get a better looking, revised 2nd edition.
Arylith: If the game has good mechanics and is nicely put together I would buy it in small print-run even if it was pricey.
potza4: Pay higher, and maybe get the mass published version too.
DKahnt: higher
wifwendell: small run...
aleo09: depends on how bad i wanted the game
shteev: Depends how good the game is really, doesn't it?
guttedgeek: Wait for major publishing house
DHEK: It depends on how much higher that game costs and how good it is.
Decorius: Pay higher, the quality would be better
jidar: I'll pay for what I want.
diemacher: Depends on the game
rootbeer: Wait and see. Or get it now by trading for it.
Chris Page: Either, depending on circumstances. But I'm more likely to go with the first, assuming I notice the game before it's picked up by a "major" company.
tdyck: wait
paulgo: depends on the game
Nekura: If a game is good, I want to play it and will pay the extra cash.
scriptorum: Get it now. Pay the higher cost.
TheDS: If it's a game I KNOW I like, and I have the money, I'll buy it as long as the cost isn't outside what I feel it's worth. As to what that value is, well, let me just say I feel most games are overpriced today, but considering the market, I can't say I blame publishers that much. Still, I rarely buy things like that any more, saving my money for the truly worthy games.
Marlowe_PI: Pay higher. Major publishing houses often mess up good games (e.g., Cosmic Encounter)
brainrob: Get it while I can
bigbadsteve: if it was a game i was really interested in, i would probably be willing to pay more
SteveK2: assuming tolerable production quality, I'd buy now.
Kazin: Depends on the quality, and depends on the game.
LemonyFresh: It depends on the production value of the small run
_Kael_: Depends on the game, doesn't it?
shawn_low: Pay more.
Famous Mortimer: If I like the game, I'd pay more.
Recneps: Depends on the quality of the components in either case.
richdknows: 42
beakermyers: Is this hypothetical game good?
xlorp: No true gamer would ever wait.
Cavedog_pdx: Always better to wait and see I think.
GrandpaDave: No
Belash: wait and see
sourwyrm: if it's a good game i don't care
CharlieWonka: Either is fine
Ludocrazy: Wait usually
ssmooth: If I can't stand the price, I'll wait, but if I really like the game, I can probably stand the price.
Gecko23: I'll only buy games I think I'll like. Production volume has absolutely zip to do with it.
djlg: If its not too much higher.
bluebehir: Is it a good game? If it is a good game, and I wish to own it, and it will see play time I will just purchase it.
meshuggener: I want to buy great games at great prices. I don't care about volumes.
Sceadeau: I pay what I think games are worth. A game is typically worth it if I get a lot of plays out of it
ThatFalafelGirl: the former, better safe than sorry
glookose: I guess it depends on your financial situation. I would rather pay for the small print run.
rawk: small print
skrutsch: Pay higher if I get a chance. If not, I wait and see. Sometimes I buy both.
thoia: wait
Lord_Prussian: Generally pay higher if I am really interested in the game.
Mike A: Depends on the game. And my cash in hand.
CapAp: Depends on the production quality. I'm a bits man.
snoozefest: wait
Troymk1: If I want it, I'll buy it
Metaphora: I wait. It seems like all the good ones get reprinted at some point, and often with improved rules.
heli: buy the small print run edition
jmagnini: wait
batman: depends on the game
dakarp: Unless that game is fantastic, I'll usually wait and see. But that depends on many things, including the quality and price of the first edition, and apparent likelihood of a reprint.
MisterCranky: Money is usually no object if I want the game, so why wait for those lazy bastards at the major publishing houses?
gnomehome: How good is the game ?
jimchris: Depends on the game. Quality before quantity, I say.
Asmoridin: Yes, I would like one of those choices.
stephensj23: this makes no sense.
toulouse: wait
ValJor: My gaming budget is so limitted that the question doesn't even come up
2amp: wait & see
darquil: Wait. The quality of components might improve as well. Thanks to those players, though, who pioneer and generate the necessary interest to get the game picked up.
Wintergoblin: Wait and see.
solove: If the game is that good, I will buy it
Dave: Support it now!
TragicHeroBC: I wait for a major publishing house. There are enough outstanding games that I'll be fine if I miss a few winners. Case-in-point: Reef Encounter.
StormKnight: If its good, I don't mind paying a bit more for it
puffinge: If it's good, I'll pay higher.
isolated: Pay for the smaller. It's too rare for good games to be picked up.
m_r_tyler: I'm going to assume this is a game I really, really want to buy. I don't mind paying a higher price if that is the only way to get the game immediately.
AlorielLelyn: If the game is worth it, pay higher
chaddyboy_2000: If it's really good, I'd buy it right away before stock runs out.
skelebone: I'd prefer most things to come from a major publisher for cost and distribution, but if a game is good, I'm not opposed to paying more to buy from the small publisher.
CDRodeffer: That depends upon how much and how rare and how good a game it is.
CortexBomb: It's not a matter of preference. If I think a game has a good shot at never being reprinted I will generally jump on the small run, ditto if it looks like something I will really like. Anything that I'm on the fence on, or am confident about a future reprint will just be on the wait list
Spielfreak: Pay higher for a small print run. I hate to wait.
jttm: Depends how good the game is
Blackwind: I'll pay for any game I want.
