¿Question #220052?
purplewurple: What's your favorite book with a female protagonist, written by a woman? Most of my recent reads (which skew heavily towards the sci-fi) fall into that category, and they have all been excellent.

Ruesailmana: More Fantasy than Sci-Fi, but still worth it: The Broken Earth trilogy; Dreamblood series; Raven Nothing; The Hunger Games trilogy. Not fantasy nor sci-fi: Clap when you land; Lichter dan ik. Not particularly good, but still worth a mention: Inheritance trilogy; The Gilded Ones; Howl's Moving castle trilogy.
Chris%20Page: Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey, but there's also Tehanu by Ursula LeGuin, Barrayar by Lois Bujold, Fool's War by Sarah Zettel, Bellwether by Connie Willis, or Nocturne by Louise Cooper.
Woelf: Not sure if it counts (maybe as an omnibus set), but the entire Ms.Marvel series by G.Willow Wilson was really excellent. Prior to that, I can’t think of many that fit both of your criteria simultaneously. “Ahsoka” by E.K. Johnston was pretty good, although not quite as exciting throughout as I’d hope, plus a key event depicted in a flashback has been retconned (improved, in this case) by an animated series.
Tim%20Synge: I'll second pricero's Val McDermid suggestion and add in Maggie O'Farrell (who is herself the protagonist of "I Am, I Am, I Am"), Barbara Kingsolver ("The Poisonwood Bible" has multiple female protagonists) and Daisy Johnson (whose "Sisters" has two female protagonists). I don't do sci-fi in books any more than I do it in board games!
purplewurple: Thanks for the recommendations, I should have mentioned some of my own: Arkady Martine - A Memory Called Empire & A Desolation Called Peace, Becky Chambers - The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet & A Closed and Common Orbit, Tamsyn Muir - Gideon the Ninth, and also Susan Palwick, R.F. Kuang, Emily St. John Mandel, and Mary Robinette Kowal.
Inkedad: My fav female sci-fi writer is Le Guin.
Phil%20Fleischmann: A Wrinkle in Time
pricero1: Anything written by Val McDermid.
kswingruber: Off the top of my head I can think of quite a few; don't know that I have a "favorite"... Artemis, by Andy Weir / The Girl With All The Gifts, by M R Carey / The Kinsey Millhone Series (A is for Alibi , B is for Burlar, etc), by Sue Grafton / The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series, by Alexander McCall Smith / The Crystal Singer Series, by Anne McCaffrey / The Wee Free Men Series, by Terry Pratchet / The Morgaine Stories, by C. J. Cherryh
0Shea0: Is murderbot a female?
RealGuest: I can only think of the Hunger Games and Divergent series off the top of my head
