RealGuest: It was a disparaging term when I grew up. Still feels that way to me, but it is being used proudly now, I guess. So, the meaning is definitely changing. Or values are. Or both.
kswingruber: Nope... to me a “geek” is still someone that bites the heads off chickens in a circus side-show. And a “dude” is still a clueless city slicker that dress up in a cowboy outfit and pretends he can ride a horse...
MABBY: We, as a people, have taken it back from a negative connotation. Most wear the label proudly these days.

Woelf: The basic meaning hasn't really changed, but what the term gets applied to has expanded considerably over the past few decades.
