¿Question #2280?
puffinge: Have you ever been hoist on your own petard? Did it hurt?

Hector Vortac: I've never been hoisted. If I were to be I would then learn what a petard is. If I have one it's probably in storage.
MD1616: I'm above petty attempts to pun on Shakespeare.
joetortoise: Oh yeah - let me tell ya . . .
Rygel: I have not, but it does not sound too pleasing
richlowe32: nope
Harkonnen13: I keep the petard where I can't hurt myself with it.
sludgemariner: Yes. Yes
aleo09: no
heathbar: Not many people I know carry petards these days. I imagine it would hurt one way or another, though.
ZeroZilla: Yes, and only my pride.

confuse_a_cat: Actually, I think the phrase uses the preposition "with" instead, from Hamlet. Still, I've heard "hoist on your own petard" and "hoist by your own petard" fairly often, so I would gather that using "on" is okay.
Loquutus: Sure not. It sounds painful.
Kazin: petard?
LemonyFresh: I don't think so
GrandpaDave: My what?
jgravitt: no
arkibet: doesn't petard involve explosives? if so, no. if it means something else, probably, and yes, the point would be to make it hurt.

Karlsen: No. Not applicable

Belash: questions like these make me want to read on and answer all of the GeekQuestions
djlg: No. NA.
Basilius: you get hoisted BY your own petard, nitwit.
2amp: yup, yup
snoozefest: no
nexttothemoon: Not that I can think of.
skelebone: Hell of a wedgie.
MisterCranky: You get hoisted "by" petards, not "on" them.
gnomehome: That sound a bit dirty.
AlorielLelyn: I don't think so, and it must not have.
Spielfreak: no
