pricero1: Other than those who live in your home, what would you consider the ideal distance from your home for other relations?

TomTi89: Instinct says to agree with 30 minutes, or possibly the next town over, whatever that happens to be. But, you'll probably end up with family you wish were closer, and some not so close.
Ruesailmana: Friends could be a lot closer, most live too far away. As for family, I wouldn't mind if 80% of them would move to Australia.
BOBBYCAN: There is no ideal distance, not for me anyway.
Woelf: Half hour or hour is good. Close enough to easily visit, but not so close that anyone feels compelled to visit multiple times per week.
PolarDad: Most of mine...in laws, my mother, my sister and her family, and my sister in law and her family are 5 miles away. It is fine. To be honest, there have been a couple times that I wished they were closer.
mattomaw: Over the sea is pretty good.
