¿Question #228907?
Derang3d: Ok so BGG messed up with the Beta market, and is now going to close Classic Market as well. Including all the Price Histories, apparently. What's the best game you got via Geekmarket?

pricero1: I am the keeper of Price history.
pwilz: This is kind of weird. Does this mean that auction lists will no longer be going through any kind of Geek Market? Not sure what this might mean for BGG's revenue. I would guess not much to be honest. If they sold a million dollars in games in a year, then 3% is only $30 K, which probably doesn't mean too much to the site anymore.
Grimsalt: I'm in shock. Like RealGuest and surely many others, I first joined BGG because of the Geek Market. Over time, I've made many contacts and a few friends all across North America. We have plans to game together, online or face-to-face. I later discovered GQ — which along with the Market, were the 2 best features of BGG. Now both are slated to shut down. Amazing. The "Golden Age of Board Gaming" is now officially over as of Sep. 1st 2022.
PolarDad: ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! I have bought quite a few games on Market...and met some cool BGGers through it. Oh...that makes sense now...BGG hates communities. And so continues the onward march to being a simple Wiki page.
Woelf: The only time I ever used it was to get the promo card set for Gingerbread House. €4.00 plus shipping (from Germany) was worth the price to me, because what few other listings I could find for it elsewhere (eBay, etc.) were significantly more.
Derang3d: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2914396/announcement-classic-beta-geekmarket-shutting-down. Euhm 's not easy to have a conversation like this - at least to me it isn't. @Jeda: 'm sorry that happened :(. @RG: part of it is new US laws, perhaps, but they're very very very silent on the matter - even remove any Q or A on the subject from the FAQ thread :/. Also: RoboRally, from Luxembourg.
Jedadeana: I only bought 2 games that way. 1st was two copies of NMBR 9 in one box for less than the price of a new single game, the 2nd game I bought was the Marco Polo Khan one, at an alright price, but that was an absolute nightmare because I was scammed and sent a game the person didn't actually own/had never seen in person (it was sent to me from a Goodwill thrift store and the included receipt was for far less than I had paid even with shipping) and BGG Admins did nothing to help me fight it and even PayPal rejected my claim because I had gotten the game even though I never agreed to buying a game in that manner or my personal address/information being given to a third party. The seller was incredibly abusive to me as well and left multiple messages and bad reviews of me saying how *I* was a scam artist, etc, (BGG Admin at least deleted those for me) and refused to let me return the game, and thinking about it all still makes me feel nauseous and upset. Never used GeekMarket again. I am sad it is disappearing for all the good people that used it though
RealGuest: Um....Wow. Just wow. It's not just users that delete their accounts and data, then? The marketplace is what caused me to start up an account in the first place. Ah well...most of the other redeeming characteristics of the community have been stripped, why not marketplace, too? The fact that there will surely be lost revenue kind of suprises me, I have to say. Is something else in the offing? Or maybe it just wasn't that much in commissions?
