pwilz: Only on specific occasions. I've referred to friends as dear when talking about them after their deaths, etc.

BOBBYCAN: No. I called my mom Mommie Dearest for a while as a joke, but she didn't find it very funny.

imyourskribe: No. My grandfather used to call my grandmother dear. I always thought it was very sweet in an old fashioned way.
