Derang3d: @Matty: Nobody's quite sure where they came from. There isn't really anything for them to be changed /from/ (Eagles? But the first ones didn't fly, I think.), and they're not Maiar themselves (or they'd've existed earlier). Maybe they were bred /from/ Maiar? Ah well, in the end it doesn't matter - it's all fiction anyway, even if it's intricately woven fiction it doesn't need to be 100% internally consistent.
