¿Question #229933?
TomTi89: At the station, leaving Zürich, we were there so early, in terms of both time of day, and relative to the departure time, that I bought coffee twice. The first time, and maybe it's my imagination, but the guy taking my order seemed a little on the flirty side. Then the barista put a heart-shape in my cappuccino foam. I don't know if it was personal [unlikely] or if everybody gets that [probable]. The second purchase was with one guy, who was rather grumpy, and didn't want to accept any payment other than in physical Swiss Francs - the card machine worked just fine, he just had to type the number in, which took all of 5 seconds, but it was too much to do for the two people buying drinks apparently. When was the last time you experienced such a duality?
TomTi89: Robin, we took out quite a few Euros in preparation for this trip, in the either wrong or outdated notion that Italy preferred cash too. They accepted some of it (and the places that did, didn't seem to mind if it was a larger note), but definitely tried pushing us towards using card in many places, unless we had the exact amount, or close enough. A bit like here, now, I suppose. Thanks for the heads-up about Switzerland and cash - I'll remember that if we go back.
Derang3d: Hmm, unless you were being particularly rude (quite unlikely), there's no reason to be treated like that. Maybe he thought you were American? Anyway, at the shoemaker's. The one guy is terrific, the other was sort of outwardly grumpy? Sort of like a librarian who demands an explanation as to why this book got scuffed, sort of feeling. Probably had a bad day, tho.
PolarDad: Everyday minute to minute changes in my teenage daughters
pricero1: The first guy probably wasn't Swiss. Swiss love dealing in cash and look down on electronic payments.
