Woelf: Positive (or negative) thinking has been pretty much proven to have an effect on physical health, so as long as the person receiving the prayer believes that it works it can help them. It's never going to be a replacement for actual medical care, though.

Of course, I really think of the "power of prayer" as actually being the "power of positive thought." I don't think that positive thought is ONLY linked to prayer although I think that prayer and meditiation are the most common ways to achieve a state of positive thought. Others are just natural optimists.
