¿Question #3922?
ssmooth: In a new restaurant, do you tend to stick with familiar foods or to order something you've never had before?

Leo-T: new stuff
BOBBYCAN: I've learned the hard way not to be too adventurous in restaurants.
Bardok: I'm always trying new stuff in new restaurants. I am always stick to old favorites in already visited restuarants :)
Felimid: Former, then latter as I return to the restaurant for other meals.
weed131: similar foods
Myok: I almost always go for something new that sounds good or interesting.
LaBambaMan: I usually go with what I know I like.
amosmj: something new!
kathleenryan: It depends if the description of the food sounds good or not. If not, then I stay with familiar foods.
MisterCranky: If it's a new restaurant, then none of their prepared dishes will be familiar to me, and I may as well try anything because the odds say most new restaurants suck anyway, and if I'm going to die I should go out trying new things.
meehael: Well, I'll never go for frog legs
Cringing Dragon: New things, of course. What's the fun of eating out if you don't get to try new things?
aleo09: it depends on the type of restaurant... for example i was taken to a sushi place back in June... so I didn't have much choice... i stuck w/ the tempura.
Cassiusali1: Always try something new. Why else would I eat a snail!
pilight: Usually something familiar

MightyMike: something familiar to see how they compare
_Kael_: nhb4
mpw182: Que?
mjharper: Stick with familiar foods.
hob69: Depends on the kind of restaurant. With new ethic stuff, I'd take a chance, but with something essentially generic, I'd stick to what I know.
sdonohue: I'll order something new.
PsyJam: Something new\
Kimo_LeFey: Familiar

FrozenHoHos: I'll order what I think falls within the strength of that particular restaurant. Mostly a hunch if anything.
scribidinus: New joint, new dish
Commandex: depends on what mood i'm in
Helenoftroy: familiar, I am too pick to try things too new.
KDSN: never had
Watchmaker: Something new.
confuse_a_cat: It mostly depends on whether or not I think I'll go back. If I think that it will be my only trip, I will usually get something different. If I think that I'll return, I will often get something familiar to serve as a benchmark.
brainrob: Something new
bekudno: Something new.
Karlsen: Probably the latter if it sounds interesting
Fawkes: Familiar.
Cyberjunk: In a new restaurant I have never had anything from the menu so its all new.
jasta6: never had before
skrebs: Well, if it's a new restaurant but I'm familiar with the cuisine (like it's a new Thai restaurant), I'll probably go with something familiar. If it's something like Sudanese, I've never had any Sudanese food before, so I'll order something I've never had before.
ssmooth: I'm adventurous; I like to try something new.
Bahamut-X: depends on the mood
SteveK2: I'd probably go for something new, but similar to something familiar

xlorp: At least one scary new thing every time.
djlg: order something I've never had before
Numskull: I usually get something familiar first to use as a gauge.
eganaden: The key word is "new". I tend to try whatever is deemed a specialty or not found in any other restaurant. I can get "familiar" at home for the most part.
LudesFactor: a little of both
skrutsch: something new, usually
mrbeankc: First time I stick with the familiar. If I choose something new I can't offer a good basis for a comparison
chaddyboy_2000: Familiar. I would hate to waste my money on something that sucks.
jttm: Depends on what I feel like
Lord_Prussian: I will often order a favorite dish in a new restaurant, unless something new calls out to me.
Dave: In a new restaurant, I'll eat something familiar to establish a point-of-reference by which I'll judge their other dishes.
Randy Cox: I'll probably stick with something that's at least similar to things I've eaten before. But since we eat out at a restaurant only a few...a couple of...every now an...never, it doesn't matter much. The last time I ate out at a restaurant was well over a year ago.
puffinge: Geez, Phil, that Japan story redefines boring to a level I'd never previously imagined possible. Since I want to be able to make a fair judgment of a new restaurant, I will order something familiar the first time there.
CDRodeffer: I'll order new stuff if it's made with familiar ingredients.
skelebone: I tend to stick to a group of familar foods in most retaurants, not that I'm fearful of new dishes, but because I know that I will like my selected dishes a lot.
CortexBomb: I always try something new, if a restaurant has no defining new dishes then the chances of my coming back again (barring amazing food) is very low
Spielfreak: Stick with the familiar. I am a boring eater. When I visited Japan 10 years ago, I ate every other dinner at the local Burger King.
