¿Question #4476?
Lord_Prussian: Public transportation: Great idea or huge boondoggle?
Woelf: Great idea. Wish it was more readily available where we live.
pricero1: There should be more and better and cheaper.
Phil Fleischmann: Monorail!
BOBBYCAN: Good idea. What a strange question.
Felimid: Great idea.
Spirit of 70: Great idea.
thegreybetween: Great idea. Saves me $275+/month, provides a bunch of time to read, and a handful of intangible benefits. About the only bad thing about it are all of the Juggalos.
Jbrady: Great idea in big cities
Jythier: Great idea, bad implementation.
Narl: When it eventually will work smoothly....a great idea.
rordak: somewhere in between
Hendal: get real - great idea, usually not handled properly
Guantanamo: Great Idea
jessitron: fabulous idea
Grievver: Great idea, but I don't like to actually use it. But I encourage other to do so.
familynight: Great idea and often a huge boondoggle
Harkonnen13: Good idea if well implemented. Probably soon to be the mandatory choice of transit once gas gets beyond the reach of the average person.
ecobot3001: great idea when planned out way in advance and can adapt to change
Mr_Six: Where it works, it works, where it doesn't, get a gun.
GozerinSK: Great Idea
Geniesse: Great idea; even a small reduction in traffic flow results in an enormous reduction in traffic volume. Even if you never take public transportation, you should still support it as it will get you to work faster.
stevegamer: Great idea
DHEK: Great idea.
ZiggyZambo: great idea
rootbeer: Both.
mrspank: Great idea.
POvidiusNaso: Great idea.
biggdork: Great idea!
sdrawkcab: Great
jeffwolfe: huge boondoggle
tomlynch: Great idea that turned into a huge boondoggle (at least in Philadelphia)
Blacknightjj: great idea
scriptorum: Good idea. Somewhat of a boondoggle but worth it. Saves resources, and lots of people can't afford or do not want to buy cars.
jlavigne: great idea
dmomo: Great Idea
Urhixidur: Stark necessity.
SisyphusX: Great idea.
XanderF: Depends on implementation. Portland, OR for example = great idea.
wookie1138: great idea
brainrob: Great idea. I use it every day. It's cheap and quick.
vampywife: Great idea when it's in a city environment. I don't think it would work as well in a country setting, but there are great examples in Europe, such as the London Tube, the Deutsche Bahn system, etc., and NY has a good system, too, at least it was good when I was there.
Chris Page: Good idea.
LemonyFresh: Great idea. We need those more of those yellow bikes.
kinetic: great idea if implemented effectively and efficently - Switzerland is an excellent example
bekudno: Good idea in theory, implementation needs improvement.
Kazin: Great idea
fubar awol: Depends on the city
double_ones: great idea poorly executed
_Kael_: Think it's like communism. Only works in theory
djlg: Great idea.
Majiken: Help deplete the planet, drive an SUV every day!
EYE of NiGHT: I wish people would recognise that taxis are public transport and should be much much cheaper.
arkibet: necessary, but poorly funded and managed.
GeminiWeb: Good idea
ssmooth: Both, I suspect.
Bahamut-X: good idea
Karlsen: Great idea
Jim_P: Can't live without it.
motoyugota: Seattle & DC: Great; Milwaukee: Not so much
jttm: Both
DonO: The boondoggle is the lack of public transportation. There's much more profit for big oil if everyone needs a car to get anywhere, and thus has to keep buying gasoline and tires. There's much more profit for big oil if cargo is shipped long distances by truck rather than train. It's all about selling tires and fuel. And don't forget who (hint: not the public) has the most influence with the current US administration.
skrutsch: great idea
Dave: Works for me - I live right next to a light rail station, and two different bus stops!
chadm: if you mean mass transit: great idea
Dr. No: big city: ok; in the country: what public transportation? (Germany)
GrandpaDave: Boondoggle? What is that?
Randy Cox: We need public transportation everywhere. A mass transit train from every southeastern town to every other capitol city would be ideal.
puffinge: it's certainly needed but it sure could be implemented better.
CDRodeffer: Great boondoggle.
chaddyboy_2000: Great idea.
skelebone: Public transportation is great, but it does take a while to get established. I marvel at some of the German networks -- I lived in Germany for a year, and I could get around easily during the daytime without need for a car.
Spielfreak: Not extensive enough
Lord_Prussian: I like the idea, but you need a huge concentrated population to support it.
CortexBomb: Fantastic idea, and woefully underfunded in the States
