¿Question #4911?
puffinge: Let's talk secret passages. Are you fascinated by them? Do you know of any? Have you been in any?

ocdspectrum: Yes. A house a few blocks away from me has a secret passage from its house to its boathouse 60 feet away.
pricero1: Are your passages really so secret, puffinge? Even to me?
DS615: I built some into my basement, so yeah, I like them. The sewing room and the laundry room are behind a bookcase door and a moving wall respectively.
oldhoss: Flip between pages 128 and 129 of The Sun Also Rises. Check out some of Hem's best homoerotic writing.
MisterCranky: Is this related to your cubicle mention of "penis?"
the manatee: They're cool. I've been in one: a bookcase could swing open, leading to a passage beyond. It connected to the next room, so that was kind of lame.
Spirit of 70: I'm not fascinated, but I know of several in the Winchester house and I've been in at least one.
Woelf: If I ever built a house, I'd make sure to put in at least one secret passageway.
Smoo: I love secret passages but have never ever found one. It's on my to-do list.
Cringing Dragon: OK. Slightly. No. No.
kathleenryan: Yes. No. No, but I read about them.
hob69: There's an urban legend that there's one in the University I work in. If so, no one has told me about it, and I'm tenured. Should I be worried?
Critical Mass: no no no
Harkonnen13: I've seen the one they have exposed on Alcatraz.
Denise: Only when I play Break the Safe!
ricardofo: yes. no. no.
Wes Hope: in a stately home about an hour from where i live. i went there when i was small but it was shut off to the public. to make it worse they had this waxwork little boy going into it, v. infuriating if you're five! also, there's supposed to be a lot of smuggling tunnels round where we live. and, when i went on holiday to malta about ten years ago, we stayed in a house that used to belong to the church, andthere was an underground passage that ran from the cellar to the crypt. very cool, but again shut off. my aunt used to have a cellar. not very exciting, but when i used to go round and play with mycousins, it was almost as good as the goonies. almost.
waza: Yes, the first "serioud books" I ever read were the Famous Five and they always found them but I never did.
tsievers: Of course. I know of one very short secret passage. It is so short that one passes through it so quickly that the experience is hardly noticeable. Thus I am unable to comment extensively on the experience. Caves, however, are another matter. They are even more fascinating than secret passages. They often carry the same historical trappings of secret passages, along with layers of folklore. They often drip with beautiful natural decoration, and may be inhabited by strange and wonderful creatures. I won't deny the appeal of a secret passage, but, given a choice, I'll take a cave any day.
Joan42: yes.no.yes
aleo09: yes, no. no.
ValerieF: yes, no, no
DHEK: Yeah. Not really. No.

dkwd: Yes. Yes. Yes.

HScottBuck: Nope
dmomo: Yes. Yes. Yes.
ZombyDawg: You mean like at the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California?

PsyJam: Yes! I love them .. always have. My childhood house had a few, and whenever I was younger and visiting stately homes or houses I would also look for the secret passage!
johngorno: yes, yes (although they're more off-limits than secret), yes (the tunnel from the SUNY Stony Brook hospital to its physical plant was a long-sought route. I got caught but snuck out rather cleverly.

Unitbuster: Man, secret passages are awesome. If I ever build my own house, you KNOW it's gonna have secret passages.
puffinge: I am fascinated by them. There was an underground tunnel between the school and the church at my grade school and I thought it was sooooooooo cool. I want to be in more of them.
skrutsch: Yes. There's a tunnel system under Penn State that's kind of secret. Only Penn State's tunnels.
