scriptorum: I prefer starting table conflicts. Kick the other players under the table. Steal someone else's pizza. Flick pieces across the room, etc.

BilboAtBagEnd: It depends on whether it's the beginning, middle, or end game. External conflicts are about equal with internal conflicts in the beginning, are more fun and profitable in mid-game, and are difficult to pull off well in the end game. Internal conflicts are useful mostly for positioning in preparation for external conflicts, or for ursurping those "secure" in their city of 15 blue tiles and an unoccupied temple hotspot...
