¿Question #2420?
jmagnini: whats your favorite game mechanic?
0Shea0: Mechanicisms
Hendal: DICE, DICE, DICE - give me the roll of the dice in every great game. Did you know Heroscape uses dice, it is true - no seriously check it out cool dice, that the ink wears off from to much play, of course you can go to tourneyments and win engraved dice that work way better but to be honest I really never use all the ones I have won, but I will lay them on the table so my enemy sees them, get in his head is always part of it, you know the mental side of it
zippy1979: worker placement
the manatee: Variable powers.
Butterbob: Tile laying or woker placement, not sure which is better
Polgara: anything that means I'm building something.. and playing OL (or similar) in games like Descent/Doom

KillerPower: Strategical dice rolling....
Woelf: Variable player/character powers

wifwendell: random events from cards are pretty cool
hancock.tom: card driven
joni: can't tell
matthan: City Building, but I like variety.
edralla: Cards ... easy to manage, often contain the relevant rules, and portable

Benzebub: Dice, and lots of them.

Geosphere: Modular changing board
scriptorum: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/question/286

Cut & Space: Chess
Dorque: Don't have any broken games that need one.
Admiral Fisher: I think the splitting of cards in San Marco is pretty clever.
collezionista: ... auction
vampywife: what exactly is a game mechanic? is that a career option?
kevinwho: At the moment, I am a fan of simultaneous action selection. Well, I've liked the mechanic for decades, ever since I learned Diplomacy, and even though I hated the negotiating and wheedling in that game, still loved the SAS.
brainrob: This is a repeat question - please try again
Bahamut-X: Is Variable player power a mechanic? ;)

skelebone: Louie down at Jimmy's Gamehaus, always gets it running again.
Metaphora: It's a toss-up between tile-laying, trick-taking, and simultaneous action selection.
puffinge: Simultaneous facedown cardplay.
